    Happy New Year 2008

Happy New Year! I hope you all have a safe and wonderful New Year's Day, and that tonight you remember to not drink and drive.

I have no resolutions (don't usually stick to them anyway) but if you decide to, here's hoping that you do stick to them and make them a part of your life.

I'd love to hear about everyone's New Years Eve. In my single days there were parties and dances. When my children were all small, I would buy and make special treats, have sparkling apple cider, and try to help them stay awake till midnight.

One of my son's is going to his girlfriend's party. My younger son has booked a room at the Hyatt in San Fran and is going to enjoy the fireworks and a great dinner.

My oldest daughter and her boyfriend have broken up, so she is at one of her friend's house for their party. My youngest daughter is spending the night with a friend. They hit the dollar store and stocked up on candy and pop (I can see them bouncing off the walls.)

It's going to be a quiet night alone.

I have found a couple of websites that I can watch movies on for free. These are probably not legal since I just watched, "I am Legend" and "The Golden Compass" but, hey, I'm a movie addict and don't care!

Now, what will it be.... AVP 3, Alvin and the Chipmunks, or the new Stargate movie that isn't slated for release until next year... yep they have those and more.

I have Chinese food, lemonade, a cat on my shoulder, and a quiet house. I'm a happy camper.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Kisses and BIG HUGS, Steph
    December 27

    They say it's your birthday....

Well, it's my birthday too! lol
Happy Birthday, to me, and to anyone else unlucky enough to have a December birthday.
My Mom is taking me to lunch, and even though there's snow on the ground, it's a nice sunny day.
I might hit some, after christmas, sales. I love those! BIG HUGS, Steph
    December 24

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

It's 6:08pm mountain time, December 24th, and I have just finished wrapping my last gift.

Yes, yes, I was one of those crazy people at the mall today getting those last minute gifts and things I needed.

The case for my oldest daughter's present came while I was gone, so, everything is done! (No comments from the peanut gallery)

I bought her an autographed full sized helmet from her favorite quarterback, Barry Sanders. (I think he's a quarterback)

Hubby is getting a autographed hat and photo from his favorite, Brett Favre. He's a huge Portland Trailblazer's fan and I found an autographed basketball signed by the whole team the year they won the championship (1976).

I'm not a sports fan by any means. In fact I bought the wrong autographed football for my son. I bought Dan Marino instead of the famous Dallas Cowboys quarterback (who's name escapes me.)

My youngest daughter is getting a series of her favorite books and a new bed. Although today at the mall I had to drag her kicking and screaming (OK, I'm exaggerating... a little) out of the pet shop. There was a Bassett Hound puppy, then a Pomeranian puppy, a Pappillion puppy... you get the idea...

    The boys got money. lol

It's been a good year and I'm so thankful for everything that we've been given. The blessings can't be counted... just too many.

Heck I even made the hubby buy a Christmas tree!

Oh, and on a scary note... I have become something that strikes fear and despair into the hearts of children every where... I am a grandma who is giving UNDERWEAR, and SOCKS for Christmas!

There, aren't you shocked? I AM!

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas! BIG HUGS, Steph
    December 12

    Merry Christmas!

This can be such a beautiful, wonderful time of year... if people don't go over board and expect more than is reasonable from themselves and others.

    Enjoy the season!

I believe in Jesus. It makes this time of year special.
If you aren't religious, then enjoy the beauty of what this time of year brings. I love the decorations, and yes, you can even find some people who have the true spirit of Christmas and are kind and caring.

I love making goodies for friends and family. I love the faces of children when they see the lights sparkle, meet Santa, or hear the story of the birth of baby Jesus.

Our family has a tradition of Christmas pillowcases, certain special goodies that are only made this time of year, and being 'Secret Santa' to a person or family we choose.
It's always fun to try and not get caught while delivering the presents.

What are your Christmas traditions? What are some Christmas memories from your childhood? Do you have one Christmas that sticks out as being even more special than usual?

    December 02

Thank you ma'am, may I have another???

This has been an unusual weekend... I'm actually glad it's over.

I've had a head cold from heck, which has turned into a sinus infection and, I spent most of Saturday with my oldest daughter and the girls fast pitch softball team, making Christmas wreaths.

They needed new uniforms and some genius had the idea to have the girls sell, then make Christmas wreaths.

I'll be nice and say... it's a good thing that most of the wreaths were purchased by and going to the girl's family members.

We had to make 5 of them. The raw materials were real fir, pine, cedar, and holly branches, which we had to wire onto a frame. By the time we were done, my hands and fingers were sore and cut to shreds.

It's for a good cause.... it's for a good cause..... lol

From there I went to our local ER.

A few days before I had stepped on a piece of glass (cat on counter, cat knocks glass off of counter, Steph thinks that she got all the glass cleaned up but was sadly mistaken)

I had a small piece that I couldn't get out, and it was driving me crazy.

It was my lucky day... "Nurse Ratched" was working!
My love and apologies to my dear friend Jean, but, I'm thinking that most nurses are sadists!

First she has me soak my foot... no problem. Then she has me turn over on my stomach and she says, "Well IF I have to do much digging, I'll numb you up."
    I'm thinking... IF??? DIGGING???

She proceeds to dig for the piece of glass in the bottom of my foot.

I'm pretty tough, but after a few deep digs I let out a, yelp, to which she says... "Yep it's in too deep, I'm gonna numb you up."

    Sheesh, YA THINK???

She comes back in the room and gives that ol, "You'll feel a slight prick and a sting..."

    HOLY #$%&!!!!  SWEET @#$$#%^&#$!!!  SON OF A #%$(*!!!

One of the nurses that knows me personally says, "Steph, I think you left nail marks in the vinyl of the bed!"

She's lucky I didn't leave a foot mark in the face of that other nurse! Giving birth was less painful than that shot.

I was told later that she went in the cut, under the glass and was for all intents and purposes digging and wiggling the needle.

They are just lucky that I'm not big on swearing or the poor little boy on the other side of the curtain would have heard some really nice words!

    I was thinking them though....

Once I was numbed up they got the glass out fast and easy.

Then before I could have a really righteous pity party, I hear that they have an x-ray on it's way back for them to look at...  It seems that there was a gentleman there who had shot a huge nail into his foot... Kinda ruined  my feeling sorry for myself... lol

This week has got to be better... right?? BIG HUGS, Steph
